PUBLIC TRANSIT

CAAG is involved in development of public transit services in Gila and Pinal County.  There are two main programs administered for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in the Region.  The 5310 Program provides vans for the agencies that provide transportation for the elderly and disabled.  The 5311 Program provides funding for public transit systems.

Under the 5310 Program, government entities or non-profit organizations may submit applications for the purchase of vans to transport their clients.  The TTAC appoints a subcommittee to review and rank the proposals.  These recommendations are approved by the Regional Council and forwarded to ADOT and ultimately FTA for funding.

The match is 20% of the cost of the van.  After 5 years or 100,000 miles the lien is released and the vans are titled over to the agency.  The agency may keep or dispose of the van as they see fit.

The other program is the 5311 Public Transit program.  The FTA through ADOT provides money for capital expenditures, operating costs, and administrative expenses for public transit systems in the Region.

Currently there are two transit providers in the CAAG Region.  Coolidge operates the Cotton Express for general public transit and Globe, Miami, and Gila County fund the Cobre Valley Community Transit system.
